Adams County Residents and Businesses Take Over Oak Lawn Cemetery

Local residents volunteered brave the cold and meet at Oak Lawn Cemetery this past weekend to tend to the neglected gravesites there. The debacle over at Oak Lawn has been ongoing for a few years now, as we’ve posted about previously, and local residents became increasingly frustrated and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Businesses even jumped in to support the effort by providing hot coffee and tea from Starbucks, bagels, and food from Panera Bread, bottled water from Farnsworth House, pizza from Dominos (delivered right to the cemetery!), and flags from Lowes. One of the Organizers, Cindy Codori-Shultz expressed her thanks to all those volunteers who came out and spent their time and physical effort to maintain such a sacred site for many local Adams County families. She also thanked the businesses who came out for their support and encourages all of us to show our thanks by support these businesses in return.

Below are some of the pictures of this amazing effort!

  • Please keep in touch I am on facebook

  • I want to thank Julie Yeagy Hower for bringing her mom, son and sister out in the cold to help. She also did a lot of behind the scenes calls to get some of the businesses onboard. Thanks to Resa and Shirley, my brother Alan, his wife Ruth. A special, special thanks to my husband JR , my daughter Shannon and my son Nate…..this wasn’t their first rodeo on this project. Each has been right by my side each and every time I’ve gone for “some maintenance ” out there! From 101 degrees to the 20’s…they have hauled mulch, hand carried stones, dug, raked, pulled weeds, planted flowers, lugged gallons of water, you name it!

Anyone wishing to donate mulch, plants, artificial flowers, flags, solar spotlights (for the front entrance), or their time, PLEASE CONTACT ME.
