Shelters & Housing Services

SCCAP – Women’s Homeless Shelter
Support circles, Homeless services, Affordable Housing, Weatherization

Adams County Rescue Mission AGAPE House
Assists family with clothing, shelter, furniture, and counseling.
Need proof of insurance and marriage certificate if available

Adams County Rescue Mission Men’s Shelter
for men who genuinely desire to recover from addictive behaviors including (but not limited to) drugs and/or alcohol.
Max Limit: 30 men

Survivor’s Inc
24 Hour Hotline, Counseling, Support Groups, Legal Advocacy, Medical Accompaniment, Bilingual, Systems Advocacy, Community Outreach, Emergency Shelter and Bridge Housing

The Colton on Steinwehr
Has done work exchange for a stay in the past, usually only during winter months and not during tourist season.

Gettysburg Cares – Open October through April (Cold Weather Shelter)
A place to shower, do laundry, use computers to apply for jobs and housing

The mission of this agency is to providing safe, decent, and affordable housing to residents of Adams County. Programs include financial counseling and home ownership preparation. Income guidelines apply.

Food Services

Gettysburg Soup Kitchen – Sponsored by the United Way of Adams County
Voucher Program,  New House Grocery Kits, Midday meal which we served from 11:30am to 12:30pm every day helps those who need it most.
The soup kitchen has 50 to 70 guests a day. 

St. James Lutheran Church 
St. James provides emergency assistance for Gettysburg residents who need help with gas, food, utility bills and prescriptions.

The Gleaning Project
Our system is designed to eliminate waste on all levels of food production and distribution. We work with local growers to reduce the amount of food loss on their farms and gardens by collecting and redistributing the produce to those who need it most. We distribute our produce, at no cost, to many locations around Adams and Franklin counties to increase the number of access points for our community members.

Adams County Farmers Market Association
Accepts and doubles SNAP benefits to provide healthy fresh food options to lower income families. FNMP and Healthy Options also available.

Employment Services

Gettysburg Ladies Auxiliary Thrift Shop (Day of Transformation)
Business Clothes for women as well as workshops on how to make a resume with a voucher from approved organizations.

Education Services

HACC Gettysburg (KEYS – Grant Program, among any others!) 
SNAP or other participants can get support, counseling, financial aid assistance, etc.
They have many programs available, so the best thing to do is set up a meeting with them

Medical Services

Family First Health
Take insurance but do sliding scale healthcare, has a dental program

Mission of Mercy
For more than 25 years, Mission of Mercy has been providing free healthcare, free dental care and free medications to the uninsured, underinsured and those who “fall through the cracks” of our healthcare system.

Adams County Community Foundation
Develop a permanent charitable endowment for Adams County. So if you want to create your own charitable fund, you can utilize their format to help create this. Their grants are going to help the most vulnerable residents.

Mixed Services

Adams County Office for the Aging
Adult day care, senior centers, Lifeline systems, medical equipment loan, volunteer opportunities, tax preparation assistance, Medicare counseling, information about transportation, property tax and rent rebate assistance, protective services, legal services, and a variety of health and educational programs.

The Arc Adams County
The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
