We have not posted much on our site lately, but our Facebook has still been somewhat active. You know how it goes…life gets hectic and things go awry and the next thing you know it’s almost WINTER. I don’t know about you all, but I am very much alight with festive spirit and preparing for the coming holiday.
I’ve also had to deal with some unfortunate events with our rescue pup, Bastian, which you can read about on our fundraising site. It has taken most of our attention over the last several weeks. We also had several car issues resorting in one fried engine which destroyed Donald’s truck and forced to try and find a local used car, a fried clutch for me, and various other automotive sundries. Fortunately for us, we enjoy checking out local businesses of ALL types and writing about them here, so it gave us another opportunity to do just that between dealerships and mechanics.
That said, we had a great time getting Gettysburg Wire up and running this summer and enjoying all the local businesses that we were able to patronize for a time.
But that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop. Oh no, we’re just getting started.
A&A Village Treasures
In fact, just before Thanksgiving we stopped by a new local store that caught my eye called A&A Village Treasures. I saw jewelry, chocolate, and some hand-bags in the front, and considering I love jewelry and chocolate, and needed a new hand-bag, it was the perfect excuse to stop in.
We were met with Amado and Anthony, the shop owners, and a delectable aroma of some freshly brewed gourmet coffee and toe-tapping music. There’s so much to see in this little corner of Gettysburg, it’s hard to know where to start. They have jewelry of all styles, beautiful pottery that I was drooling over, chic clothes, amazing chocolates and local chocolate caramel popcorn with dried cranberries to sample (which convinced me to buy), and lots LOTS more.
But don’t think that they don’t cater to the male variety as well. They had plenty of aftershave, old-timey razors, leather bracelets, and the like to gift to your male friends.
While speaking with the owners, we learned that the first Friday of every month they have a local musician play in their shop and bring in some local artisans for a small evening event. Donald and I did not make the one for December, but will do our best to make the one in January, so maybe we’ll see you there?
Donald and I walked away with several goodies of all varieties, and plan to make their shop a regular stop in our parade through Gettysburg as Gettysburg Wire.
Petey’s Auto Sales
I have to give a special mention to Petey’s Auto Sales in Hanover. While we did not purchase a car from them, we enjoyed our visit with Ray who was working the shift that evening. He was very excited that “The Wire” (as he calls us) had stopped by for a visit, and we talked to him about local events and his passion for Gettysburg. We will definitely be checking out Petey’s first when we need another used car so that we can not only support the local economy, but we like to do business with local companies that love their town and enjoy doing business with the locals.
Pines Candle Gallery
I’ve been wanting to stop by this shop for a while due to my love for candles and moccasins. So on a whim during one of our weekly treks out to The Family Cow in Chambersburg, we decided to check them out. They have a great selection of Yankee Candles, if that’s your thing. But definitely check out their wax melts (Blueberry especially) because they smelled amazing.
They have a large variety of candles sizes as well, some sizes that I’ve never seen before. Beautiful glass votive holders, and nice holiday decorative gifts. It’s worth a stop in 🙂
And with that, we are sad to see Farmers Market season go. We really miss some of our farmer friends like Woollyboogers Icelandic Sheep, Five Points Farm Market, and Beevia Farm & Bakery, but we will see them again soon.
In the mean time, we have so many more shops and businesses to visit, don’t hesitate to recommend your favorite spot in the area 🙂
